Sally Everist

Superpower: Making things happen | First job: Hop Picker, not an experience I want to repeat but, from it, I learnt that I could exceed my own expectations | Rejection: McDonald’s rejected me apparently I was overqualified! | Qualifications: Degree in Anthropology and History | What I wish I had known at 20: Work is immensely satisfying, either paid or unpaid; work is not just good for your bank balance but also your general wellbeing.

Thanks to a husband with wanderlust, I have worked in the UK, Tanzania and Australia as a volunteer, a paid employee and an employer. I have also founded several very different businesses (the first two years after leaving school). Still, most of my work has been as a consultant for companies in the educational and charitable sectors.

As Director of The Good Schools Guide: Careers, the majority of my previous work was focused on creating a new accreditation programme for any businesses that offer apprenticeships.

Author of The Good Schools Guide’s The Good Degree Apprenticeship Handbook and have co-edited with Queen Mary University, London, The Apprenticeship Anthology 2018, 2019 and 2020.

As a Life Coach, I work mostly with young people on the cusp of the next stage and who are unsure of how they would like their world to look in the future.

I am an avid lover of the theatre and currently sit on The Royal Court Theatre, London, Development Board and also the main board of THEATRE 180 in Western Australia, a new company that are challenging the way we present stories using traditional and digital technology.

I firmly believe that there is always a way around a problem; it’s just that the path may not have been found - yet.
